Health and Safety Policy for Man with Van Uxbridge
Man with Van Uxbridge is committed to providing a professional, safe and healthy environment for our customers, employees, contractors and members of the public who may be affected by our removal and delivery services. This Health and Safety Policy sets out our approach to managing risks associated with domestic and commercial moves, transport of goods and associated activities.
Our Health and Safety Objectives
Our primary objectives are to prevent injury, ill health and damage to property during removal operations, and to continually improve our health and safety performance. We aim to identify and control hazards related to lifting, carrying, driving, loading, unloading and working in and around clients premises.
Legal Compliance and Responsibilities
We comply with all applicable health and safety laws and regulations relevant to removal and transport services. Management has overall responsibility for ensuring that suitable arrangements are in place for the planning, organisation, control, monitoring and review of health and safety measures.
Every employee has a duty to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions, and to co-operate fully with the company in implementing this policy. Staff are required to follow safe working procedures, use equipment correctly and report any hazards, incidents or near-misses without delay.
Risk Assessment and Safe Systems of Work
Before each removal or delivery, risks are assessed and steps are taken to minimise them. This includes considering access routes, staircases, parking, loading areas, weather conditions and the nature, size and weight of items being moved. Where required, a more detailed written risk assessment will be carried out, particularly for complex moves or higher-risk environments.
Safe systems of work are developed for regular tasks such as lifting and carrying furniture, loading vehicles, using trolleys and handling fragile or bulky items. These systems are communicated to staff, monitored in practice and reviewed periodically to ensure they remain effective.
Manual Handling and Use of Equipment
Manual handling is a core part of our removal services, and we take particular care to manage these risks. Staff receive training in correct lifting techniques, team lifting, use of handling aids and recognising their own physical limits. Heavy or awkward loads are planned in advance so they can be moved safely and efficiently.
We provide suitable equipment such as sack trucks, dollies, straps, blankets and protective coverings. All equipment is checked regularly to ensure it is in good working order and is used only for its intended purpose. Defective or damaged equipment is removed from service immediately until repaired or replaced.
Vehicle Safety and Driving Standards
Our vehicles are maintained to a high standard to ensure they are safe, roadworthy and suitable for carrying furniture and other goods. Regular inspections and servicing are carried out in line with manufacturer recommendations and legal requirements.
Drivers must hold the appropriate driving licence and follow all road traffic laws. They are expected to drive safely, allow sufficient time for each journey and avoid distractions while driving. Loads are secured properly to prevent movement during transit, and vehicles are not overloaded.
Customer and Public Safety
When working in and around customer properties, our staff take care to protect people, property and belongings. This includes keeping walkways clear, managing trip hazards, using door and floor protection where appropriate and communicating clearly with customers about any potential risks.
We aim to minimise disruption to neighbours and members of the public by parking considerately, loading and unloading safely and keeping noise to a reasonable level. Where necessary, staff will use warning signs or barriers to mark out work areas and prevent unauthorised access.
Training, Information and Supervision
All employees receive induction training, which includes an introduction to this Health and Safety Policy, emergency procedures, manual handling techniques, safe use of equipment and basic vehicle safety. Additional training and refreshers are provided where needed, for example when new equipment or procedures are introduced.
Supervisors and team leaders are responsible for ensuring that work is carried out in line with our health and safety standards. They provide guidance on site, monitor working practices and correct unsafe behaviours. Staff are encouraged to raise any concerns or suggestions for improving safety.
Accident Reporting and Emergency Procedures
All accidents, injuries, near-misses and dangerous occurrences must be reported as soon as possible to a responsible person. This allows us to investigate what happened, identify root causes and put in place measures to prevent a recurrence. Accurate records are kept and reviewed regularly to identify patterns or areas for improvement.
Our teams are briefed on emergency procedures, including what to do in the event of fire, accident, sudden illness, vehicle breakdown or other incidents while on a job. Where appropriate, basic first aid equipment is available, and staff know how to summon emergency services when required.
Health, Welfare and Fitness for Work
We recognise the physical nature of removal work and the importance of staff being fit for duty. Employees are expected to present themselves for work in a condition that allows them to perform their tasks safely and effectively. The use of drugs or alcohol that could impair performance or judgement is strictly prohibited while at work or driving company vehicles.
We encourage staff to report any health issues that may affect their ability to carry out manual handling or driving tasks safely, so that adjustments can be considered. Appropriate rest breaks are supported to reduce fatigue, particularly during demanding moves or longer journeys.
Continuous Improvement and Policy Review
Man with Van Uxbridge is committed to continually improving its health and safety performance. We review this policy and our working practices at regular intervals and following any significant incident, change in operations or update to relevant regulations.
Feedback from employees and customers is welcomed as part of our improvement process. Where sensible improvements are identified, we will update our procedures, provide additional training where required and communicate changes clearly to all relevant parties.
This Health and Safety Policy applies to all activities carried out by Man with Van Uxbridge and forms an integral part of our commitment to delivering safe, reliable and professional removal services.
